Strengthened capacity to tackle the crisis

At the Euro Summit on 26 October 2011, Heads of State and Government of the eurozone put in place a comprehensive strategy aimed at ensuring fiscal consolidation, growth, support to countries in difficulty, and a strengthening of eurozone governance.

The strategy and the economic and fiscal tools available
The European Council meeting on 23 October 2011 concluded on growth enhancing measures, economic governance, and financial regulation and the subsequent Euro Summit produced objectives for a comprehensive strategy to tackle the sovereign debt crisis. At the Euro Summit on 26 October 2011 discussions focused on four interrelated issues on which agreement must be reached to conclude the comprehensive strategy:

01-blue Building a firewall against contagion - enhancing the efficiency of the EFSF.

• Disbursement of the 6th installment in the framework of the economic adjustment programme.
• Private sector involvement (PSI).

02-blue Greece:

 

03-blue Strengthening the European banking system.

04-blue Governance structure of the eurozone.
